Skin Care – The Importance of Prevention and Maintenance

When it comes to skin care, many people don’t think about it until they start to see the first signs of wrinkles, usually some time in their thirties. Although paying attention to skin care is beneficial at any age, it is important to learn the basics of good skin care as early as possible, and make it a routine. Many times, however, people just don’t know where to start. With all of the beauty products on the market, and all of the claims of their cleansing and anti-aging benefits, how can we figure out the best skin care regimens for ourselves? There have been many strides made in the field of skin care, and some of the new skin care products combined with some old, tried-and-true methods of care can help anyone keep their skin in the best shape possible.

1. Skin care from the inside out – One thing that a lot of people don’t realize is that skin care is more than just keeping your skin clean and applying the right kinds of creams. The skin is an organ – the largest organ of the body – and all the organs of the body need good nutrition in order to function properly. With today’s fast food diets and busy lifestyles, where many peoples’ idea of a meal is grabbing a quick bite on the way in or out the door, it’s no wonder that there is a nutritional crisis going on. When it comes to skin care, proper nutrition should be the first thing that we think of. Eating healthy foods, including plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats like olive or canola oil can go a long way in helping the skin stay healthy and supple. A good quality vitamin and mineral supplement each day can help too, especially for busy people who don’t watch their diets as closely as they should. To be healthy, the skin needs the right balance of vitamins and minerals, especially the B vitamins, anti-oxidants such as vitamin C and vitamin E, and essential minerals like calcium and magnesium. Proper eating habits and vitamin and mineral supplementation should be considered the first and most essential beauty products and anti-aging products on our lists.

2. The Importance of Prevention in Skin Care – It is much harder for skin care beauty products and anti-aging products to work when we don’t work to prevent many skin care problems. Good nutrition is one way to do this, but we also need to do more. One of the most damaging elements to the skin is the sun. Not so long ago, people regarded a nice tan as a sign of healthy skin. Today, most of us know that too much exposure to the ultra-violet rays of the sun and even the so called “safe” UVA rays that come from tanning booths is extremely damaging, and dangerous, to the skin. UV and UVA rays cause premature aging of the skin, and can also cause other skin conditions such as rashes, inflammation, and skin cancer. A good quality sun block lotion is an essential beauty product to have on hand at all times – with an SPF of 30 or higher. Sun block should be worn all the time when you are outside – ultra violet rays are still present even on cloudy days – and should be reapplied whenever necessary. Hats work well for shielding our faces from the sun, as well as trying to always sit in the shade and not directly in the sun.

3. Cleaning – Keeping skin clean is essential for good skin care. A mild soap that doesn’t dry the skin can be good, and there are several beauty products on the market that focus on safe skin cleansing. Your skin should be cleansed before applying or reapplying any creams or lotions, and any make-up used on the face should be as clean as possible.

4. Creams and Lotions – Today there are a variety of creams and lotions on the market that are very helpful for skin care. Beauty products and anti-aging products for the skin have been developed over the years that can help the skin renew itself, that can prevent or reduce wrinkles, help prevent or reduce other signs of skin aging, and clear up acne and other debilitating skin conditions. Exfoliating skin creams help the skin slough off old skin cells and produce newer, more resilient skin cells. Certain moisturizers not only keep the skin supple, they can also help the skin rejuvenate itself, and can soften or plump lines and wrinkles, making them noticeably smoother and less apparent. There are creams and lotions for specific areas of the face and body, such as creams for the delicate area around the eyes, the thicker and rougher area of the elbow, or the vulnerable area of the neck. There are non-prescription and prescription creams that can be extremely helpful for clearing up acne and blackheads.

One of the best things that you can do is consult a dermatologist to figure out the best beauty regimen for your skin type. With all of the wonderful beauty products and anti-aging products on the market, as well as some knowledge about nutrition and preventative skin care, your skin can look its best for a very long time.

Stretch Mark Home Remedy

If you have just had a baby or have lost a lot of weight then you have no doubt seen that you have acquired some stretch marks. Now you are looking for a stretch mark home remedy.
Someone should have told you that you could minimize the appearance of stretch marks during the time you were pregnant and maybe they did but I think that stretch marks are pretty much inevitable in any case.

So a good stretch mark home remedy starts with you and having the patience to see results before you start running to the plastic surgeon for help. That step may come in time but let’s try this first.

Cocoa butter is wonderful. It penetrates the skin all the way down to the dermis, moisturizing as it goes to treat even the deepest stretch marks. Apply a good amount of cocoa butter to your stretch marks at least three times a day. Remember that you may not start to see results from this treatment for several weeks to a month, so be patient.

Lanolin is another good one to use. It basically works the same way and if you can find a product that contains both cocoa butter and lanolin you will probably see results faster. Do not quote me because everyone is different and you just need to try it to find out for yourself.

Mostly, this is how you will get rid of the stretch marks, by rubbing them down with creams and emollients. If you are diligent then you should have some success in at least reducing how bad they look. If you do not see any improvement then you may want to go to see a plastic surgeon and get a consult to see what can be done. But I think with some work on your part you should see some improvement in a few weeks to a month from now.

Obviously if you are rubbing yourself down with these creams then you are also giving yourself a good massage, too. Massaging an area will increase blood flow to that area and make it feel better. Deep massage also helps to break up scar tissue and that is what stretch marks are or at least they can cause scar tissue to build up making the stretch mark area look even worse.

Ah, yes, one more suggestion, go to the store and buy some vitamin E capsules or see of you can find some vitamin E oil somewhere and rub it into your skin. Vitamin E is important for skin health and will greatly improve your skin’s elasticity. If all you can find is capsules you may need to use more than one to cover the area with the stretch marks. Puncture the capsule and squeeze out the oil and rub into your skin. get as good coverage as you can.

All this plus eating a well balanced diet with lots of protein and vitamins and minerals to help your skin stay healthy is a very important and will go a long way to being a major factor in your stretch mark home remedy.

Take Care of Your Skin This Winter

Dry, itchy skin affects more than 80 percent of Americans and can be most prevalent during the cold winter months – when humidity and temperature drop – making skin particularly vulnerable to dryness and cracking.

“Frigid temperatures and low humidity can contribute to dry, winter skin,” says New York City dermatologist Dr. Diane Berson. “It is important to take extra special care of skin during the winter, especially for those with sensitive skin. People with sensitive skin should look for products without dyes or fragrances.”

If you have a problem with dry skin, Berson recommends that you consider the following:

* What personal care products do you use? Sensitivity to fragrances and dyes commonly found in soaps, lotions and even deodorants can be a frequent cause of skin irritation. Look for personal care products specially formulated for sensitive skin that are hypoallergenic and free of dyes and perfumes, such as all® Free Clear laundry detergent, the No.1 dermatologist and allergist recommended detergent for people with sensitive skin.

* Make the switch. As the temperature dips, your skin craves more moisture. Remember to replace lightweight summer lotion with lotions that have a higher concentration of emollients (lipids), which help skin seal in and retain moisture.

* Get vapor relief. Cranking up the thermostat in winter creates more dry heat, which can leave skin parched and lead to itchiness. Use a vaporizer, which produces hot steam, or humidifier, which produces cool mist, to add moisture to the air. Be sure to thoroughly clean and disinfect humidifiers regularly to prevent harmful particles from building up. This is especially important for people with mold allergies.

* Keep it cool. Chilly winters may make a long hot shower or bath sound enticing, but hot water can actually wash away skin’s natural oils, leaving it extra dry and itchy. Instead, take warm showers and pat skin dry. To lock in moisture, apply body lotions containing ingredients like petrolatum and glycerin which work to keep skin hydrated. – NU

The Quest for Beauty

For thousands of years women have tried various different methods to try to look younger. With the assistance of science they have gone a very long way from simple home remedy products to state of the art hypo-allergic refined products with effects that not only creates the effect of taking years off their skin but also promotes a healthy lifestyle.

Back in the years when the pharaohs ruled Egypt and the great pyramids were not considered one of the great wonders of the world but were being planned and constructed women were looking for a way to make their skin look younger and healthier.

One of the first figures of significance to pioneer in the field of dermatology is Cleopatra. She would use various methods to make her look younger and attractive such as bathing in sour milk. Sour milk was high in lactic acid to exfoliate the skin to make it smoother and healthier. She would also create creams and lotions to help maintain her beauty however many of those were lead based products and would eventually lead to lead poisoning, a fact that was not known back then.

The Greeks also had some knowledge in keeping their skin younger and healthier. To achieve this they would constantly bathe in olive oil and honey to moisturize their skin and protect it form the harsh sun and other harms.

The Romans probably had the best idea for the best way to maintain a healthy skin. Because of their impressive engineering techniques the Romans were able to supply their people with water allowing them to take baths daily. The Romans would use soaps to help remove the dirt and other particles from their skin. They would then apply a fresh batch of scented oils to maintain their cleanliness.

Hundreds of years later women in Europe would use other measures to keep their skin looking younger by bathing in wine. However in the Middle Ages and early colonial America, frequent bathing was not executed by the people because of the impracticalities of it and lead to poor hygiene resulting in poorly maintained skin. Once the link between poor hygiene and sickness was proven people then began taking frequent baths helping the maintenance of a healthy looking skin.

Today women are still trying to look younger and younger everyday by the uses of facial masks, treatments and lotions. But who can blame them as looking healthy can boost a persons attitude and allow them to live a positive lifestyle. With today’s technology, scientists can prove why a certain product or procedure can work and how it works as well as finding the positive and negative side effects. Such products that contain certain extracts like emu oil or procedures as plastic surgery have assisted in improving and maintaining the look of healthy looking skin.

To Keep Makeup Looking Fresh, Take A Powder

Beauty expert and renowned makeup artist Sonia Kashuk, who has worked with the world’s top models, answers your questions and offers tips, tricks and tools to help you look your best.

Q: My makeup always looks great right after I’ve applied it but after a few hours it fades. How do you make your makeup last throughout the day?

A: The answer may surprise you…whether the product says “long-wearing” or not, you can keep your makeup looking fresh from dusk ’til dawn by using proper application techniques. The greatest trick I have learned over the years: Loose powder is your complexion’s best friend!

• Concealer-Gently dot concealer and blend using your finger or concealer brush around the under-eye area. Seal coverage by lightly sweeping the area with a small powder brush dusted with sheer, loose powder.

To try: Sonia Kashuk Barely There Loose Powder in Translucent Matte.

• Cream Blush-I am a firm believer that less is more…especially with cream products. Because of its consistency, it is the nature of cream blush to move on the face. One way to prevent this from happening is to apply a dusting of sheer loose powder over the cheeks after you have applied the blush to keep it where it belongs-on your cheeks.

To try: Sonia Kashuk Crème Blush Duo in Color My World or Brighten My Day.

• Eyeliner-Eyeliner smudges by nature, but tends to look sexier when slightly imperfect. Rather than using black, which can look harsh, I often recommend trying navy blue.

To try: Sonia Kashuk Eye Definer in Midnight. Tip: For a strong, solid line, use a liquid liner for precision and stay-put finish.

• Lipstick/Lip Gloss-There are products on the market made specifically to prevent feathering, and a secret trick of mine that I always use if I don’t have my Lip Glossing/No Feather Pencil on me is to dab foundation on your fingertip and smooth it over your lip line. This smooths out any lines around the mouth and provides an even surface for lip color to adhere…and stick to.

Q: How do I know what makeup colors work best for my coloring?

A: Here’s a surprising tip: To identify colors that will work for you, use your hair as a guide, not your eyes! If you’re blonde, go with creams and taupes. Brunettes look great in mochas and chocolate browns. If you’re auburn or a redhead, choose shades of copper and peach, or cool tones like pinks and lavenders. Gray hair looks gorgeous with tones of grays, soft purples and blues.

If you’re unsure about colors, stick to neutrals. You can still achieve drama and variety with neutral tones-they’re actually my favorite to work with. Or, to make it really simple, pick up one of my new Face Palettes, which are designed to correspond to your specific hair hue for expertly coordinated, complementary colors.

3 Benefits Of Home Tanning Beds

Some people love the idea of owning tanning beds. A bed in your home will allow you to tan whenever you want, day or night. You won’t have to drive across town or rush to get to the salon before they close. Although they can be expensive, if you tan regularly, the investment may be well worth the money in the long run.

You basically have two choices in the style of your bed: a traditional horizontal bed and a standing booth. Unless you have a room or large space to devote to a horizontal bed, you may want to consider a standing booth. These take up less space in your home and can be placed in a corner. Basically, your preference and the amount of space you have available will dictate this choice.

The Bulbs Used in the Bed

The type of tanning bed bulbs used in a bed are the most important feature. Beds use either UVA and UVB rays or UVA only. There is controversy over which bulbs are safer for your skin. There really is no safe way to tan, and you should take precautions to protect yourself from damage to your skin, regardless of the bulbs used.

You need to know exactly which kinds of bulbs are used in your bed when it is time to replace them. Bulbs aren’t interchangeable and you need to be sure to buy the right ones. Also, look at the placement of the bulbs. How easy will they be to replace? You will most likely be performing this task yourself and you want to be sure it will be easy to do.

Extra Features

The best extra features to look for include a face tanner and a cooling system. The face tanner will help you get the ultimate tan all over your body. These have specially placed bulbs in the facial area that direct light to this area, which is difficult to tan for some people.

A cooling system is important if you get easily over heated inside a bed. The cooling fan will keep your skin from getting too hot. Make sure you don’t overdo it in the bed with this feature. Just because you don’t feel the heat, doesn’t mean you aren’t tanning. Staying in the bed too long contributes to over exposure and can be dangerous for your skin.

Choices in Home Tanning Beds

Most home beds are traditional tan beds. These use typical bulbs that resemble fluorescent tubes. Another choice in beds are known as High Pressure Beds. These use high pressure quartz bulbs, rather than the traditional lamps. They are called high pressure because the gas in the bulb is slightly higher than the pressure in the atmosphere.

These beds allow you to tan on only one side at a time. You will need to turn over half way through your session. Many people find these to be more comfortable than traditional beds. These are normally found in salons, but you may come across one if you shop for used equipment.

Purchasing Used Tanning Beds

A used bed can be an affordable option to an expensive new home bed. In many cases, you can find a high quality bed at the price of a cheap bed. There are some things you should consider before purchasing a new bed:

o Make sure the bed you are considering meets the current federal and state safety regulations. These change often and you want to make sure the bed you buy is safe. A tanning salon owner is a good source of information regarding safety regulations. The internet is another good source of information, as most states post regulations for salon owners.

o Find out how often the bed was used. If it was originally used in a salon, it has probably gotten quite a bit of use. Sometimes beds that have been purchased for home use end up getting very little use. These can be great, giving you a little used bed at a substantially reduced price.

o Compare the price difference of the used bed with a brand new bed. The bigger the difference, the better for you.

o Ask about the working condition and any repairs that have been done. Also ask when the bulbs were last replaced and about the maintenance that has been done. You want a bed that has been properly maintained.

o Ask if there is any time left on the warranty.

5 Simple Tips To Fix 5 Mistakes We Almost All Make When We Put On Makeup

Have you ever been putting on your makeup and when everything is going well, you suddenly make a mistake that ruins all of your effort? Have you had to take off your makeup some time because, without meaning to, you’ve ruined your makeup? Surely you have; it happens to all of us.

In this article, you will find five of the most common mistakes and the best tips to quickly fix them without having to take off all of your makeup…

We hope you’ll like them and that they’ll help you easily improve your personal image…

makeup

“I’VE PUT ON TOO MUCH FOUNDATION”
This is a very common mistake that we all make when we put on makeup. If you are totally made up, to take off any excess foundation, do the following:

• Lightly moisten a clean sponge with water (the sponge should be almost dry and without any makeup residue) and sponge all of your face with downward movements.

TIP: It’s very important, most of all, to avoid excess foundation and concealer around the eyes. To eliminate any excess in this area, perform the same step and afterwards use your fingertips to softly blur the product in that area.

“MY EYESHADOW LOOKS TOO DARK”

If you’ve put on too much eyeshadow, or it looks too dark, follow these steps to quickly fix the problem:

• If it happened on your upper eyelid, blur the eyeshadow toward the edges with a clean brush to reduce the color. If it still looks very dark, apply a little bit of matte cream eyeshadow with a brush (if you don’t have cream eyeshadow, you can use translucent powder) and blur the eyeshadow.

• If it happened on the lower part of your eye, use a fine, clean brush to blur, or pat it softly with a Q-tip.

• If as you were blurring, you’ve left the contour of the eyelid and the shadow looks very dark, blur it with a clean sponge and afterwards apply a little bit of foundation, patting lightly to fix the foundation.

“I’VE PUT ON TOO MUCH BLUSH”
If you applied too much blush, try the following tip:

• Stroke your cheek with a thick, loose powder bush—the brush should be completely clean. If you still have too much blush on, apply translucent or clear powder with the same brush, just over the blush. That way the two powders should mix, clarifying the original color.

“I’VE PUT TOO MUCH MAKEUP ON MY EYEBROWS”
When we put too much makeup on our eyebrows, we look harsh and we can’t even recognize ourselves. Follow the following tip to quickly solve this:

• Simply brush the eyebrow with a clean Q-tip, going against the grain of your eyebrow. You will see how quickly the color you initially applied disappears.

“I’VE SMEARED MASCARA ON MY EYELID”
That’s all right. Just follow these next steps and you’ll see how you can quickly fix the problem:

• Continue applying makeup and when you have finished, allowing enough time for the mascara to dry, apply a Q-tip right over the smudge. You’ll see how it quickly disappears and you don’t need to remove the makeup from your whole eye.

TIP: A good trick to avoid smudging yourself is applying makeup first to your inferior eyelashes and then to the superior.

5 Tips To Improved Skin Care

Your skin is the first thing that people notice about you and that is why a proper skin care regimen is so important. There are many products that claim to help improve skin tone and promote a flawless complexion, but the truth is that there is no such thing as instant results. An effective skin care regimen is one that is done consistently over a time before results will begin to develop.

Skin Care Tip 1:
Always use some type of exfoliation product, which will help to remove old skin cells and other debris and particles from your skin. This will expose the healthy cells and rid your body from the old ones.

Skin Care Tip 2:
If possible, avoid constant sun exposure and tanning beds. In addition to being dangerous where health is concerned, these may also lead to early signs of aging. Everyone loves a suntan, but there is no reason to sacrifice your skin or your health in order to achieve it. Therefore, many individuals opt for a self-tanning lotion instead. Back in the day, these products had a tendency to turn the skin orange, but that is no longer the case. Improvements have helped to give self-tanning products a more natural, streak-free look. Before applying the lotion to your entire body, apply it to a small test area just to make sure there is no irritation.

Skin Care Tip 3:
If your lips tend to become chapped in the winter months or wind burnt at other times, using lip balm or lipstick will help to protect the lips from nature’s worst.

Skin Care Tip 4:
Dry or cracked skin can be very unbearable. Not to mention the discomfort of tight red skin, it can be downright embarrassing. A container of Pacquin Plus hand & body cream will eliminate soreness, redness and help to add moisture back to dry skin.

Skin Care Tip 5:
Do not use products that irritate your skin in any way, including soaps that have harsh ingredients. If possible, use a moisturizing soap or that which is designed for sensitive skin.
In addition to these tips, skin care products are available as commercial or prescription based treatments. A dermatologist is often consulted for matters relating to acne or other skin disorders, especially if they are severe. Many skin care enthusiasts also believe in using plenty of moisturizing body lotion in order to replenish the skin’s natural moisture, which is often stripped in today’s harsh environment.

The information in this article is to be used for informational purposes. It should not be considered as, or used in conjunction with, professional medical advice. Consult your doctor prior to beginning any skin care regimen or if you have been diagnosed with any disorder involving the skin.
